ＪＲ総武線小岩駅で下車をして、南東方向に１５分ほど歩くと善養寺に出ます。ここは、秋の菊人形と3月の植木市、それに影向（ようごう）の松が有名です。善養寺は真言宗豊山派に属し、小岩不動尊などとも呼ばれてきました。開基は足利時代とのことなのでもう五百年以上にもなり、徳川家から御朱印を受けた名刹でもあります。日露戦争の顕彰碑なんていうのもありました。公爵某某揮毫などとあっても、ウームこの時代にねえ･････。
This temple is located in the eastern part of Tokyo. It was built a long time ago. And fire must have occured.
大きな松が日本にはいくつかあって、ここの松は東の横綱と言われているそうです。実際、東京都指定の天然記念物にもなっています。西の横綱は香川県・真覚寺の岡野松だったそうですが、岡野松は枯死しているので東の横綱だけがいるということになります。
現在は周囲を養生中で、幹に手を回すことはできませんでしたが確かに巨木です。樹齢は600年で、幹周囲は4.6メートルとか。樹高よりも繁茂面積が見事です。少し高い所にたつと良く分かります。
影向というのは神仏が一時姿をあらわすことで、「影向の松｣とは神が松を憑代（よりしろ）として現れた神木のこと････書いてあるとおりに説明しました。
It is said this pine tree is the biggest one in the east Japan. Age of this tree is about 600 years old.The stem is 4.6 meters around.
善養寺の北側は大きな病院になっていて、便利ですね。いや、病院から寺にくるのではなく、寺から病院に行くという意味で･････いや、もっとまずいか。どちらにしたって、寺と病院がくっついているのをうまく説明するのは不可能なのです。いや、うまくいきすぎているから何も言わないほうがいいのでしょう。It is ONE pine tree.

Прывітаньне, Masa! Hope you are doing good. Hard times is good times - we learn a lot and it is good to look back on what we have accomplished. I wish many of your guys to achieve good results. But it is probably impossible for all of them - not all of us are destined for 'higher' purposes - i guess this is the natural balance of life, which has it's own place for us all.
Oh, the pine tree reminded me of a baobab tree for some reason. Amazing it remained untouched and is still preserved. Can you imagine it has seen the sunrise for 600 years, day after day and has never moved from the same place... Almost like a constant..
How are you these days, Masa? Your Kyoto recommendation sounds interesting, I've been dreaming about going to Japan for a long time now.. I will definitely go there one day - it's a matter of time. I think Japan is very special and different from any country I've been to so far. Are you recommending Osaka as well? What is your favourite place in Japan?
